The valve that stops the water

Main Shut-Off Valve Replacement

The main shut-off is the one valve that stops all the water to your house. On older homes it is often a round handle that seizes up, drips at the stem, or will not fully close when you need it. We replace it with a quarter-turn lever you can shut in one move, so an emergency stays small.

Signs the Valve Should Be Replaced

You usually find out the valve is bad at the worst time. These clues come earlier.

A handle that fights back

A round wheel that is stiff, squeaks, or feels like it might snap when you turn it.

It will not fully close

You shut the valve but a tap still trickles, so the water never really stops.

A drip at the valve

Moisture, a green stain, or a small puddle right at the valve body or stem.

You have never tested it

If you have never shut it off, it is worth replacing with one you can trust.

Out With the Old Gate, In With a Lever

We find your main shut-off, usually where the water line enters the house near the meter or in the basement. We arrange to stop the water at the street if needed, cut out the old seized valve, and fit a new quarter-turn ball valve in its place.

A lever valve closes in a quarter turn, so in a leak you can shut the water off fast without wrestling a stuck handle. Before we go, we show you the valve and have you try it once so it is familiar.

When to Replace the Main Valve

If you cannot count on this valve, the rest of your plumbing is harder to protect.

The handle is stiff, stuck, or feels ready to break
The valve will not fully stop the water
There is a drip or stain at the valve body
You are about to have other plumbing work done
You want a lever valve you can shut in one move
You have never been able to find or test the shut-off
